Who Should Attend
New clinical faculty and those nurses with an interest in becoming clinical faculty.

This seminar offers 6.8 continuing education hours from Ferris State University, a provider approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing.

 Workshop Objectives  - At the completion of the workshop the participant will:

  • Identify characteristics of effective clinical instructors
  • Apply theoretical knowledge of teaching/learning styles and adult learning theory to facilitate critical thinking and judgment during simulated clinical situations.
  • Describe essential knowledge, abilities, and functions required of effective clinical faculty
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to effectively organize the clinical experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively evaluate the nursing student’s performance in the clinical setting.
  • Recognize resources for continuing education and support in the role as clinical faculty.

Directions to the Ferris State University Campus in Big Rapids

Driving from North (Cadillac, Mich., etc.): US-131 South to Big Rapids, Exit 139. Turn left and follow Perry Street 1.7 miles to the last stop light which is State Street (Business Loop-131). Proceed straight through the stoplight into the main campus.

Driving from South (Grand Rapids – Kalamazoo, Mich., etc.): US-131 North to Big Rapids, Exit 139. Turn right and follow Perry Street 1.7 miles to the last stop light which is State Street (Business Loop-131). Proceed straight through the stoplight into the main campus.

Driving from East (Flint and Detroit): Take I-69 West to Lansing. Take I-96 West to Grand Rapids. Take US-131 North to Big Rapids, Exit 139. Turn right and follow Perry Street 1.7 miles to the last stop light which is State Street (Business Loop-131). Proceed straight through the stoplight into the main campus.

Driving from East (Mt. Pleasant, etc.): Take M-20 West to Big Rapids, turn south (left) on State Street. Follow State Street (which is Business Loop-131) and stay in the left lane. Remain in the left lane and when you pass the Big Boy Restaurant (which is on your right), turn left onto the next street (Cedar Street). Go to the stop sign and turn right into the main campus.

Driving from West: Take M-20 East to Stanwood and then US-131 North to Big Rapids, exit 139. Turn right and follow Perry Street 1.7 miles to the last stop light which is State Street (Business Loop-131). Proceed straight through the stoplight into the main campus.
