Consumer Engagement Work Group
Charter
DRAFT
Overall purpose: Develop and implement a plan for
working with consumers to encourage them to: 1) utilize the public performance
reports as a key input to selecting a primary care physician from whom to seek
care (choosing high performing providers); and 2) take responsibility for and
undertake a plan of action to improve their own health (self management).
Reports to: Governance Board
Charge:
- Review the planning phase work plan
supplied to the work group and recommend any desired and appropriate
modifications to the plan.
- Develop, for governance board
action, a work plan covering the implementation phase of the work group’s
activities and responsibilities.
- Conduct research on effective
consumer engagement strategies, including current/previous West Michigan
activity and accessing RWJ technical expertise.
- Conduct focus groups and/or other
mechanisms by which to assess potential consumer responsiveness to
strategies to engage them to use the performance reports and become more
involved in their own health.
- Identify and develop behavioral
targets, the Stakeholder Framework, the strategies for achieving change and
the improvement plans for engaging consumers for the initiative’s dual
purpose, establishing linkages and collaboration with current consumer
engagement strategies wherever feasible
- Including the strategies
described in the RWJ proposal from AFH.
- Oversee and guide implementation of
selected consumer engagement strategies.
- Develop, in conjunction with the
Public Reporting Work Group:
- Educational/instructional
content regarding how to use the reports
- An awareness building campaign
to publicize the reports’ existence and value
- Report distribution strategies
to maximize the numbers of consumers exposed to the reports.
- Provide input and recommendations
to other work groups regarding:
- Areas of physician performance
of high interest to consumers
- Public performance report
content and format
- Strategies by which physicians
and other staff can effectively encourage and support consumers to
self-manage their chronic conditions and health.
- Participate in the design and
conduct of the initiative’s evaluation as appropriate.
- Other activities that may arise
during the course of this initiative relevant to the interest and expertise
of the work group.
