The misuse of alcohol and drugs by adults has a large impact on West Michigan families, businesses, the health of individuals and the social fabric of West Michigan. This misuse impacts much more than drivers. Alcohol use is extensive among those who are under 21 years of age. In fact, a significant percent of students in high school regularly use alcohol and suffer significant consequences for doing so. Besides alcohol, marijuana is also a major drug of choice for youth. Do you know and understand the impact of alcohol and other drugs upon West Michigan? This month, the Alliance for Health will fill in the missing pieces of this puzzle. Hear from the panel members the facts and figures of AOD (alcohol and other drugs) misuse, the story of the forming of the Kent County Substance Abuse Prevention Leadership Coalition and about a method for screening and brief treatment for youth who are experiencing significant challenges as they illegally use alcohol and other drugs. You will learn from this panel ways that health care providers, businesses and individuals can help in the prevention of AOD misuse. Addressing these issues is not just the responsibility of a few providers, but each member of the West Michigan community. Don’t miss the March forum!
