Alliance for Health members can actively serve in many ways. Many of the agency's
committees and activities are described below, and members are welcome to serve as
vacancies and appropriate positions become available. If you are interested in
membership on any of the following,
please contact us.
Ad Hoc Committees
- From time to time, ad hoc committees are organized to deal with topics of specific
interest, plan a special activity such as a Women's Health Conference, or work on community issues, such as coverage for the uninsured.
All members are encouraged to volunteer to serve in areas of expertise or
interest as opportunity arises.
- Board of Directors
- The corporate Board is responsible for the
overall operation of the Alliance for Health; its financial status, its policies,
employment and public relations. The corporate Board appoints members of the various
policy-making committees of the organization and coordinates activities among
them.
- Development
- Organized annually to raise the necessary funds to operate the Alliance for Health.
Volunteers organize the campaign and the annual special
event, and make needed contacts and presentations in the community
to secure needed funds. Meets as necessary throughout the year
subject to the call of its chair.
- Evaluation Board
- Volunteers from throughout West Michigan meet to evaluate major capital projects and
programs of health care providers. Reviews are conducted on projects seeking state
Certificate of Need approval as well as those submitted voluntarily by applicants desiring
an objective community review. The Evaluation Board has a majority of non-provider
members.
- eValue8
- This committee is composed of business leaders and representatives from
HMOs and PPOs. The
performance of local health plans is assessed each year, with report cards generated
to aid employers, employees and consumers in selecting their health plan.
- Health Benefits Advisory Group
- All interested insurers, health maintenance organizations, and benefits consultants who
are members of the Alliance for Health. The Health Benefits Advisory Group
advises the board of directors and the community on current developments in the health
benefits area.
- Health Care Vision 2020
- Established in March 2007, this group oversees all of the quality and
information technology initiatives of the Alliance for Health. This
includes the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant, "Aligning Forces for
Quality" (AF4Q). AF4Q has four work groups: Consumer
Engagement, Public Reporting, Performance Measurement and Quality
Improvement.
- Health Expo Committee
- Health Expo, a showcase of the community's health and well-being services, features health
screening, informational exhibits and community events designed to promote health and
fitness. Provides overall guidance and organizes subcomponents to
coordinate publicity, exhibits, entertainment & health screening.
- Physician Advisory Group
- All physician members of the Alliance for Health are welcome to join the Physician
Advisory Group. The Group reviews current Alliance for Health activities, advises on planning, and assures physician
involvement and interaction with the many Alliance for Health projects and constituent
units.
- Planning Board
- Members are authorized to develop and/or adopt
plans and policies for the West Michigan area. Adopted plans become a formal part of the
area wide Health Systems Plan. The Planning Board has a majority of non-provider members.
It also may appoint ad hoc task forces and special study committees to develop specific
plans.
- West Michigan Business Group on Health
- All corporate employers who are members of the Alliance for Health are welcomed to be
members of the West Michigan Business Group on Health. It is committed to sharing
information among employers to allow them to be more effective purchasers of health care
and to be more aware of the health care system and their ability to influence the health
care system. The West
Michigan Business Group on Health often establishes task forces and subcommittees to
engage in specific projects for the benefit of the group. Annually, it conducts a survey
of its members to allow members to evaluate their health plan costs, health plan design
and the relationship of these to other plans in the community.
- West Michigan Nursing Advisory
Council
- WMNAC provides a collective means for nurses in academia, multiple sites
of service and clinical practice to address issues related to the provision
of quality nursing care in West Michigan and to assist the Alliance for
Health in achieving its goals.

West Central
Michigan Health Care Regional Skills Alliance (RSA)
- The RSA works with five area Michigan Works! organizations on issues
related to health personnel shortages, especially allied health.
